    • Never mind, I duplicated Template.css as Template2.css and inserted #logo {background: url(../images/light/logo2.png) 0 0 no-repeat;}, which apparently over-rides light.css styling (where I got the line of code from)

Then I used CSS2Switch to assign template2.css to the menu items which I wanted a new logo for.

    • Hello all,
      Please give me your advice,
I am not a CSS savvy and do not have a lot of time to play around with this situation, I do want to change the style or at least my background image by menu item, I have tried to follow the 11 steps from JEM above but I got stock on step # 9 ( and after )
      9. Find your copy and select the circular icon to the left
      10. Now select Assign
      11. Choose your menu item

I can't find the assign option inside the template manager I do see all my presets which I previously edited and renamed accordingly, I just can't find the option to assign the template I only see 3 options here ( Default Edit and Help ) where can I find this option?

I am using REFRACTION with J1.5.15

    • Just a little more work would have keep me from posting the last request.

Thanks for reading and I know some help was on the way but I found the right step by myself.

JEM, for more advance user it may not be a problem to find out what you try to explain in your tutorial, I think for semi-advance and beginner users you need to edit your tutorial as this:
      1. Download your template.
      2. Copy the directory locally
      3. Rename the folder
      4. In the copied template folder, open templateDetails.xml
      5. Edit the names to reflect the new folder name
      6. Upload the directory to your /templates folder
      7. Log into the Joomla Administrator at www.yoursite.com
      8. Go to
      Site
( EXTENSIONS) > Template Manager > (DO NOT NEED THE REST OF THIS STEP )
      Site Templates
      9. Find your copy and (OPEN/EDIT )
select the circular icon to the left
selecting the circular radio does not do anything
      10.
      Now select Assign
( UNDER MENU ASSIGNMENT SELECT YOUR MENU ITEM )
      11.
      Choose your menu item
      ( SAVE )
I think it makes more sense that way, or maybe this is for joomla 1.0 which I stop using since 1.5 was released.

I do thank you for the helpful titurial and I have been to assign styles to my menu items.

      Thanks.

      Duplicating Your Template:

Creating a different style or color scheme for each Menu or Section is a popular request.

Using the Template Manager, this can be done quite easily by duplicating the template and assigning Menu items to each version.

      1. Download your template.
      2. Copy the directory locally
      3. Rename the folder
      4. In the copied template folder, open templateDetails.xml
      5. Edit the names to reflect the new folder name
      6. Upload the directory to your /templates folder
      7. Log into the Joomla Administrator at www.yoursite.com
      8. Go to Site > Template Manager > Site Templates
      9. Find your copy and select the circular icon to the left
      10. Now select Assign
      11. Choose your menu item

      Assuming you have:

      A) Duplicated the template
      B) Created a Section or Category with a new Article

follow steps 8-11, choose the copy of the template, you will see Menu Assignment, choose the menu for the Section or Category you created.
    • Thanks,

    • JEM,
I Followed your steps correctly, only that the steps you have given are not correct on steps 8-9, in my case I am using Refraction RockLuncher J1.5.15 and when I go to step #8 instead of > Template Manager > Site Templates  I get: Extensions > Template Manager >
This image is hidden for guests.
Please log in or register to see it.
inside here I need to move to step #9 where as per your tut, 9. Find your copy and select the circular icon to the left. :cheesy: Selecting the circular icon does not execute anything,
This image is hidden for guests.
Please log in or register to see it.
instead I have to click the name of the previously duplicated template or select the circular icon and then click edit to go inside the template settings and there specify the menu item and the other settings.
This image is hidden for guests.
Please log in or register to see it.
see my images for better understanding of my post.

Again thanks for the great Tutorial I have accomplished my objective with your help, only that it took me longer since your tut at step number 8 and further gets confusing a little be out of the way.

      Thanks :)

    • I downloaded CSS savy and I made a duplicate file of my template, renamed it and made a few minor attribute changes and uploaded it to themes.

Now the new template is listed but there is also a new pink box above the template menue that states:
XML Parsing Error at 166:61. Error 4: not well-formed (invalid token)
I have no idea about this. Not even where to lookfor 166:61

    • I suspect the error is a result of not installing the template cope through the Joomla installation function. I think I will delete the new template from my themes.

    • That worked- error gone.

    • Did you mean that we should edit Template details and upload only that file to themes?
