    Starting Over

For whatever reason you may want or need to start over.

To start fresh, there are two things you need to do, delete the current Joomla install, and drop the tables from the current database.

To delete the current Joomla install:

If the install is in its own folder / directory, delete the folder.

If the install is in htdocs or public_html, delete the files and folders associated with the install leaving the rest.

Takes a look at the screen shot, these are the files for a Joomla install, just delete those leaving any other folder that may belong to something else or are part of your server set-up, e.g., cgi-bin.

To drop the tables in your current database:

Through your host’s Control Panel go to phpMyAdmin

Find the database you used for the install an select it.

You'll be redirected to a new screen.

      Scroll down.

At the bottom on the left, click on 'Check All'

Then from the 'With Selected' dropdown, select 'Drop'

You will receive a confirmation / warning screen, click ‘Yes’

All the tables will be dropped and you can now use the DB for your fresh install.

Sorry, the j-files.png didn't load in the original post.

Note: you probably won't find 'x_installation' in the list of folders, during the install process, you are instructed to delete or rename the installation directory. So if you have deleted it or renamed it to something else, it won't be there. (In this screen shot, I renamed the folder with an 'x_' prefix.)

Also note, if you have been hacked, you may want to ask your host for instructions on how to empty or reset the root directory... some files or folders are places there like cgi-bin or .htaccess, which you will need (in most cases) to get your site to work, but what else hosts place in the root is really case by case.

So, you don't want to delete anything that should be there, but on the other hand you don't want to miss deleting anything that shouldn't be.
