  • Click Here to Enter Page

    • I currently have a site built with the Mynxx template and need to put a disclaimer page up where users have to agree to certain terms before entering my website. I know this is supposed to be a simple task but how can I redirect my site www.example.com to a disclaimer page with a ENTER HERE link that forwards the users to the front page of the site which is currently on www.example.com . Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    • You could create a simple HTML page for your site with the disclaimer.

On that page, you could link the Joomla site to the 'Agree' button and link the 'Disagree' button back to the same page or another link if you wanted to.

    • Is Joomla installed in the root?

Change the default order for your index page from index.php to index.html.

There's no need to specify the /index.html' in the address.
    • Thanks,

How do I change the default order page? then how do I link the enter button to point to my existing joomla front page?

    • You set the default index page through your host's control panel.

When someone enters your URL in their browser, for example, www.vipercompany.com , the browser will automatically look for an index page, for example index.htm, index.html, index.php, etc.

      A Joomla site's index page is index.php.

If you have Joomla installed in the root, when you visit your site, if Joomla opens up automatically, the the default is set for the broswer to automatically open index.php.

So, you need to go to your CP and change the default from index.php to index.html.

Next, you would need to create a very simple disclaimer page in your HTML editor.

For example, welcome to viper company to enter the site you must agree to the following terms:

      (Your disclaimer info here.)

I agree to the terms <<< Create a hyperlink with this text, linking it to the index.php of for Joomla

I do not agree to the terms OPTIONAL <<< Create a hyperlink with this text, linking it to the another html page, perhaps 'sorry.html', with a message that says, Sorry to enter the site you must agree to the terms'.

That example is just hyper-linking text, but of course you can get fancy and use buttons if you want to.

    • Ah, yes! The ever famous homepage landing page! I call them splash pages & place holder and many other things.

Now, JEM has given some rock solid advice on how to do a front page landing page (not I could be wrong on what they are called, but front page landing page or homepage landing page sounds catchy and if you could here me talking I sound like one of those annoying announcers form American Radio from the 50's)

      Some points to consider -

      Make it nice

Yes, that splash page is your calling card. It is like a business card that says - "Welcome come on in!" In other words the 3 second rule still applies - if the customer doesn't like it or it doesn't look like is what they are looking for - then they leave. Plus, Oh My - you just added another page for them to have to get to where they want! So, you are really high on the critical list of the 3 second rule!

      Add short cut menu

Nothing more annoying than already a customer of the site and having to go through that page ever time. Of course there are exceptions - porn site etc...

      Add Metetags

Yes, add meta description, key words, favicon etc... Nothing like turning off all the search engines with a really bad html splash page. Also, this includes proper titles and descriptions for images etc.
You can have the most awesome SEO Joomla site out there, but kill it by sticking a splash page as a barrier.

If I think of anything else - I'll add to this one...but thanks to JEM for his fine coverage.

      Peace Out,
      Wingman

    • Thanks for the help and tips.

I created an html splash page and transferred it into my root and it automatically became the default page now. I hyperlinked the enter button to www.example.com/index.php but it still loads www.example.com wich is my html splash page. Do you know what the problem could be?

    • You should probably ask your host.
    • Thanks,

    • I figured out how to link back to the main site my making a dummy link in an unpublished "Main Menu 2" with an external link to www.example.com/index.php and made that the default. This caused the home button link to me www.example.com/Home.html which is what SH404SEF makes my home page link, I then went back and changed the menu link to be /Home.html and everything works now.

What would be amazing though is if users only saw the splash page once when they enter the website like a certain porn site redtub*.com. I tried to figure out how they can make the splash page only show once when the user visits the site then clicks enter. I looked at the source but that didn't help.
