Horizontal drop down menu (Sucker fish), top item needed not clickable!

I have joomla 1.0.12 with a Horizontal menu and Sporticus V2 template (although I think that's incidental). However I don't want the top items to be clickable just the ones that drop down. Is this possible? I've seen it done before by putting in a # for the link but that links back to my home page. I just don't want it clickable.
Any suggestions welcome.
