Confused about menus

I admit I'm new to Joomla, so go easy on me...
I'm a bit confused by all the menus that came with my template (in this case, I'm looking at the Infuse template). The template comes with several menus, such as Main Menu, Top Menu, User Menu, Resources, Key Concepts, and a few more.
But most of these aren't "menus" in the sense that I think of menus. They don't appear anywhere on the site as navigation bars. Are they used as hidden links to on-site content? What are thy for? How would I use one? What would happen if I delete these "non-menu" menus?
