Server Permission issue

Could someone perhaps help me with this issue.
I have started hosting but I know little. A fresh joomla install gives me the following error when I tryand change permissions: Unable to change permission, file has different UID (102)
I cant get around this and as a result I cannot upload even the logo.
Server support is slow - they fix it but I must know how to fix it myself.
Can anyone advise.
