More, and more I see that Joomla templates are designed to be versatile while most Wordpress themes seem to be designed to a specific purpose. I'm going through my RSS feeds and see many "35 wordpresss themes for XXXX"
I'm looking at a auto dealer wordpress template and it comes with everything you need

. In Joomla you pretty much have to built it yourself, probably using a CCK or Auto extension, and you get to choose how you want to layout everything.
Here is another example
Woothemes
www.woothemes.com/2011/02/bookclub/
They have a book carousel (in joomla you can use many different image module extensions for this)
- Custom Book Author Archive Pages (cck anyone?)
- CPT, Taxonomies & Custom Fields for Book Directory Listings (directory extension)
- Add Affiliate Links and Purchase Buttons (K2,FLEXIcontent, etc...)
They sell a theme built for a specific purpose so it works out of the box. Is this a wordpress limitation? It almost seems like a static layout structure unless you know a little coding to re arrange the layout. In Joomla you have modules positions, so it easy to structure your site how you want it.
Will Joomla template clubs ever go that direction? I know there some 3rd party integration like Mercado, but you pretty much have to setup tienda yourself.
I think you putting the finger on one of the limitation of Wordpress. It’s underlying structure and overall framework is more rigid and less flexible than Joomla. This is an old debate.
You have the “Wordpress is simplier to use” argument that make no sens to me. Take a non-web savy person and give them the key of both CMS and you will see that both CMS have a pretty simple administration.
In both cases you will have to invest time to learn the platform to be able to do anything. The magic button that create a web site instantly, the way it’s in your head don’t exist, Yet.
My choice went to Joomla for exactly those reason. More flexible for a web designer in the structure and possibilities.
The only reproach I will make to Joomla is that only thing that make Wordpress appealing is it’s blogging ability.
You have no way in Joomla to have a professional looking blog platform without the help of outside modules and components.
Sadly !

First off, that Auto theme you are looking at is not a real deal auto theme. To manage a dealers inventory through wordpress posts in unrealistic, especially considering a dealers inventory changes rapidly day in and day out. That's why companies like Homenet and RyanTech send updated inventory feeds to auto dealers websites up to 6 times per day. A dealer that sells a vehicle wants it off their site as soon as possible, especially used vehicles because used cars are considered unique unlike new cars that are generally all the same (trim, body style, etc..)
Only company I know that has even had a small amount of success with inventory feeds supplied to wordpress is "DealerTrend." I know they are currently trying to get an API setup so you pay per month to use their inventory management tool. Kinda silly if you ask me. They should just release the plugin and sell it and use it at your own risk.
