I recently bought for the first time an apple item such as the latest MacBook Pro. As I am getting my self familiar with the work and environment within the Mac I was wondering if there is a need for a antivirus software for my new MacBook pro?

You never have a second chance to make a first impression !
Probably not. However, I have Comcast Internet, and they provide the Norton Internet Suite with Antivirus (MAC) for free, so I installed it anyway. I know it's strange coming for the PC world to NOT have an antivirus software installed, but I have asked the Apple store folks many times and they assured me it was fine.
But when I purchased my latest version of TrendMicro virus soft for Windows, it came with a free version of some 'Apple Safe Surfing' soft. Still don't think it's necessary... just marketing?
BTW, similar discussions abound for Linux users. I'd say you can just about replace Mac with Linux in that article and arrive at the same, great advice. See Clam :cheesy:
When someone is impatient and says, "I haven't got all day," I always wonder, How can that be? How can you not have all day?
