    unable to update joomla

Posted 13 years 11 months ago
    • Hi I am new to Joomla and Rocket templates as well as this forum and hope I am posting this in the right section.
I have Joomla 1.6.0 Stable installed and I have updated the Modulus v1.6.0 template and Gantry v3.2.6 is shown as uptodate. When I try to update Joomla to Joomla 1.6.3 it fails and I get the following message
"Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 20971520 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 7979072 bytes) in /home/fhlinux133/v/viassist.co.uk/user/htdocs/joomla1_6/libraries/joomla/filesystem/file.php on line 344"

I have tried clearing the cache but the result is the same.
      Can anyone assist/advise

    • Hi
Well I uploaded the downloaded zip file via ftp but couldn't unzip it in the joomla directory, so I extracted the files and downloaded the files overwriting the current files. Everything seemed okay I can still see and use everything and the system information showed the updated joomla, as far as I could tell all went well until.. in admin I went to change a main menu item and I got the following message
"Fatal error: Call to a member function getTable() on a non-object in /home/fhlinux133/v/viassist.co.uk/user/htdocs/joomla1_6/libraries/joomla/application/component/controllerform.php on line 279"

I get this message for each item in the admin menu. The funny thing is that all the menu items are showing on the web site and perform correctly.

In admin I can edit articles and categories okay and a FAQ add on is also working okay, as are the other plug ins and modules.

      Help again please!

    • Can you check your php.ini memory limit?

      Seem it's too low.

You should be able to increase it through your host's CP, and if not ask them to do so.

I'd suggest a minimum of 32Mb, with optimal being 64Mb for starters.

That may solve the first issue, I'll keep scratching my head on the second one while I wait for your reply.
    • Thanks,

    • Hi everyone thanks for your help, I checked the memory limit in php.ini and it is set at 20mb I will try and get this changed this morning.

The menu system was okay until I did the upgrade. As I am new to Joomla I wasn't sure what I did was correct.
The site is under developement at http://www.viassist.co.uk/joomla1_6/
