Stupid Joomla Menu Question

I have been scratching my head on this issue for a long time and can't figure it out.
I need to get a sub menu item to link to a single article with correct SEF url but running into a URL that looks like this:
nerdalerthosting.com/2011-07-12-21-20-27/economy-hosting
I created a parent menu item called Hosting that is an external URL menu type in which I set the URL to #. Then I create the Economy Hosting Menu item as a link to my single article and set its parent to Hosting.
Why do I get what looks like a date/time in the URL? How can I fix this? - Last Edit: 13 years 10 months ago by Jeff Kershner.

I believe you have to put something in the alias. You may have to recreate it completely now, but I think it puts that in there if you don't have an Alias entered.

This is joomla 1.6.5
Alias was auto filled in when I created both the menu item and the article as economy-hosting.
