K2 -- What is it?

    • I was reading a lot of forum posts and I see K2 mentioned quite a bit? I see from the website that it is toted as the CMS the way Joomla should be.

Is this something that RocketThemes are compatible with? Should I be learning more about it?

Any information would be greatly appreciated,

Some of the Rocket Theme extensions are k2 compatible. Like, RokStories and Roktabs. Some templates have a good bit of styling for k2 like Zephyr and most Rocket Theme templates have at least some basic compatibility styling for K2. That said I do not have need for it on any siites I manage but many people find it very useful.

    • K2 is a news listing/article system that is far more advanced than the standard Joomla! system in terms of adding artcles/news/blog items.
It allows you to give permissions to selected users to edit selected categories via the front or back-end.

It supports tags, social network integration, comments system, image upload and other cool features.

Its something i use on every install of Joomla :)

    • I used to use K2 because it dealt better with sub categories than Joomla ever did. However now Joomla has moved on in 1.7 I don't really have cause to use it. In fact a few months ago I was looking for K2 for Joomla 1.7 and a stable version wasn't available. This might have changed now though.

    • Yeah i think K2 is available for 1,7 now :)

K2 does have alot of features but i guess it can be too complex for some simple solutions.

Its great for news or blog sites/sections though :)

    • Hm... sorry that I get on the train late.... I just join the club and found this thread.

I found lots of K2 related articles in the wild and I deployed it to a church website, too. But I have no idea about, should I keep using it in Joomla v1.7 or even the v2 ? In my understanding and experience, K2 really can help you to post and manage the article contents in a more flexible / advanced way, especially its ACL which is not found in J1.5. However, the permission control is come with J1.7 already, I can't see why I still need to use K2 instead of the core Joomla system... and at the other side, I cannot use the lots of other Joomla CMPs (even it's over 8000 now), because the website is restricted by K2 framework.... if you want to use the component/modules? Sorry... you have to check whether that one can work with K2... and not all of the CMPs are fit for the css style of K2... so you have to expect there would be some "unknown" issue inside.... even my template created by Artisteer, I can't use the indent and other small functions in the articles... it may caused by K2... but I can't proof (it works properly in Joomla core system)

Anyway, anyone can advise and enlight me, should I using K2 in J1.7.3 instead of the core system? And any strong points?

Thanks for any kindly advise / suggestion!!!
