I need a hosting company!! Please recommend. I am with fluidhosting but am experiencing incompatible server issues all the time and have no access to the root. Their one NS server is rejected constantly by the south african coza registry so I am stuck!!!.
What systems are you running on the hosting and what type of hosting are you looking for?
Like Prim mentioned, Hostgator is very popular and has been a great bet when it comes to shared hosting for Joomla, Wordpress, Drupal, and phpBB3. For shared hosting or even for reseller hosting for sites that only require shared hosting, I definitely recommend them.
If you're looking for Dedicated hosting, you might want to check out CrucialWebHost. They have a "split-dedicated" set up that is kind of cool. Some drawbacks with them are not a ton of storage space, strict on not storing backups on your plan, and the OS space is included in your purchase space...6 gigs out of your storage right away. Some pluses are that they are fast! Their cpanel theme is clean and gives you access to pretty much everything you need. And, their pricing lands in the middle of a full dedicated and shared hosting.
Actually I am very new to hosting, have few needs apart from requiring private name servers so that I can get co.za sites registered. I also need things to be simple and I need good support because I am still learning. On the other hand I have a development "partner" who once required Tomcat to work with me on specific site requirements. I have no clue regarding tomcat or much else. All "I" need is a server that works with joomla the "first" time I install it and that preferably is compatible with Tomcat so that my partner and I can work on projects that I host - or I lose the hosting. The reason I need private name servers is..For example, where I am currently I receive this error when moving or registering coza domains - and neither of the parties can work around it so .. I have to move.
;; The Nameserver "ns3.fluidhosting.com." at IP "217.26.218.179"
;; does not have a reverse FQDN entry and as such will be rejected.
Before I move I have to make sure that this issue will be solved.
Lastly, the hosting company I was using in south africa before I decided to try hosting myself feels very slow in comparison to where I am at the moment. The owner (ovation.co.za) says he can arrange shared hosting for me since he has his own servers and so forth.. but I am hesitant because I feel the difference in speed when browsing a site on his system. In saying this.. I really do not want to land up with a slow system.
Hostgator is actually a reseller itself...even being one of the largest hosting companies in existence. What they offer is great support and set things up to run with the most common configurations used, i.e. "Joomla". They run their operation through "The Planet" which is the largest hosting facility in the world not owned and used by a single corporation...the largest is an I.B.M facility.
Hostgator also offers "live chat" support and is quick on the support ticket issues. Click on the Live Chat link and ask them about your issue with nameservers:

As far as what I know about nameserver things, if you get a reseller account, you can customize the nameservers to your domain name, but I don't think this is totally necessary with the issue you've posted. I've had several sites that operate with Australian or New Zealand locations and Hostgator has worked. Check with them first, but they seem to be more globally accessible than most.
If you go the reseller route, Hostgator offers a free license to use WHMCS, which I recommend! It's a little frustrating to get used to and to configure, but after getting through the tough times, it's incredibly nice to have for everything from allowing clients to create support tickets to invoicing them for any services rendered.
Location wise, Hostgator is on the other side of the world, but to be totally honest, I still think it would be tough to find "affordable" hosting that beats it speed wise due to being so far away. I think you'd have to go with a plan that's "semi-dedicated or dedicated" at $300+ /month to truly beat it speed wise on a regular basis.
Well this was interesting indeed! Thank you. Ok well hostgator is it then.
Did you look at the link I posted? They are recommended by the webhosting geeks — joomla shack uses them. Only reason I was considering them is for the Tomcat. Hostgator has told me that Tomcat is only available for VPS.
Thank you for being so helpful. Really appreciate it...
