    Building a good intranet

Posted 13 years 7 months ago
    • Hi Guys.
So... i will be rebuilding our works intranet soon and im stuck for ideas...
We currently use an RT template with lots of extensions and addons included yet not many get used :(

      Features:

Employee of the month (shows current winner on home page and runners up on another page)
Events calendar (K2 based events calendar to show upcoming events)
Classified Ads (never gets used, had 2 adverts in 18 months, yet users still send an email around the whole office when they have something for sale...)
Staff list (currently using 'Work Force' extension but will make it tie in with Joomla users for next version)
Internal News (K2 based, works well, gets no comments though)
HR (discount schemes and HR sickness, Absence forms etc...
Case Law (were a solicitors so this is needed and DocMan extension used)
      Weather (local weather using RokWeather)
Ajax search (for local and Google)
Website Backgrounds (the background is themed and changes every month depending on season)

Our biggest issue is getting users to login and actually use the features, we have forced everyones homepage to the intranet, people do see the news but the site never gets used to its full potential and 90% of the tools/features are left empty.

I did look at JomSocial or something to try and give it a more Facebook style look to it to try and boost it but i dont think we have the manpower to moderate it (it would be down to me, and im too busy).

So... any ideas for making an intranet useful and fun?
