I am completely new to this and really have no idea where to start. i know there are plenty of language packs but I am not sure how they actually work. I not only want the menu titles and modules to change, but I need the content of course to get changed as well. I am aware it is not a perfect science but my client can not afford to have a translator. Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to go about this.
I would like to have two little flags at the top of each screen that will allow the user to switch from English to Spanish.

Basically, language packs only translate the Joomla core content.
E.g., for a multilingual E/J site
Home = ホーム
Contact Us = お問い合わせ
(So anything within the core, including error messages, registration text, e-mail text, etc, is translated for you.)
But the rest of the contet will need to be translated, or you will have to use some online translator, details here:
