I have a need, or perhaps it is just a want
, to allow users to have multiple profiles. I think an example is the best way to explain what I mean.
This is for a games site where a user will have a personal account but may want to create multiple personas for each of their characters for each of the games they play. A user creates a personal account lets say Jason Hart. He doesn't want everyone linking to his personal profile to stay in contact with other players in the game. So he creates a persona called Runey for the game Kingdoms of Camelot. He can switch between each of these personas as required and post as either one. Now all his KoC friends get to see his Runey persona whilst being kept away from his personal profile.
Does anyone know of anything out there that might be able to achieve this? Currently I am building a site with Joomal 2.5, JomSocial 2.6, phpBB 3.0 and MediaWiki 1.18. I have all the login / registration synching between each already. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.
Of course if nothing exists I'm going to have to try to write something
If that is the case I was thinking of something along this line:
- User creates there first account (it may be personal or game character)
- From within that account they can register a new account which appears to them as a persona but to the backend is just a new user. I would need to write, or find, something that allows me to force users who create there first account to verify using email but when they create secondary accounts no email verification is required. So all they have to supply is a new Display name (the new persona) and a type (Personal or Game etc). This also means allowing users with the same email address. Again not if they create a new account but allowed if they create it as a secondary account. I think that will be the tricky part. I would need some way to override the global setting of same email and email verification when doing a secondary user registration.
- I would need a module that gathers all users with the same email address and displays them as persona
- Then they can click a switch button next to the persona to be auto logged in as that persona (that can be done with autologin plugin easily)
Hopefully someone out there knows of an existing component, module, plugin that can do any of this. Make my life easier Thanks for any help or ideas.
