How to redirect old categories to new ones

Hello,
I changed some category names (as well as their aliases) on my site. Google has search listings of the old ones for much of the site, and is sending people to the front page as a result.
What is the easiest way to redirect old url requests to the new ones?
Example.
Old URLs began with
www.slopeedge.ca/winter/list-of-reports
New urls
www.slopeedge.ca/experiences/archives
I know Joomla 2.5 has a Redirect manager but that seems to be a 1 to 1 solution, and I'd rather not have to make entries for each and every article.
IS there something I can use to redirect anything that begins with
www.slopeedge.ca/winter/list-of-reports/*
to
www.slopeedge.ca/experiences/archives/*

This was originally for Joomla 1.5, but some members have tried in on Joomla 2.5 as well. Might be a good starting point.
