Shopping Cart - Ixxo vs Virtuemart

  • Shopping Cart - Ixxo vs Virtuemart

    • Hi all,

I'm fairly new to Joomla! but am learning daily. I've been researching shopping carts and from what I gather, Virtuemart is the most popular. I came across Ixxo Cart the other day and it looks impressive.
My question is really, which shopping cart out there is the easiest to use and maintain?
Thanks a ton and am looking forward to next months template!

    • Virtuemart by a $595 landslide.

Although Ixxo looked good I don't think I could bring myself to spend that kind money on something I could get free. The one upside is that they have a monthly fee version so that you could test it out for a month or two.

No, I am not a cheap cow.

    • Thanks Joe,
I agree. I didn't realise it was $595. How does Virtuemart work with Joomla!1.5?

    • Virtuemart 1.1.2 works great with 1.5 no problems at all.

I stumbled across an issue and could not get it done in VM so got client to buy IXXOCart - their support is not great either, quite slow at responding and are a bit arsey with you as well. A high price to pay, It was supposed to be more user friendly but you gotta login to joomla admin backend then login to ixxocart admin. lots of security and it was harder to work out that virtuemart. Since this I have worked out how to get around previous issues on Virtuemart so I am a little peaved to say the least :(

anyone want to buy a 2nd hand ixxocart license ?

    • same thing happened to me, i got my client to purchase an ixxocart license and..the customer service has not been good. I figured out that the javascript from joomla (mootools) is not playing nice with ixxocarts javascript (JQuery) . Im so frustrated because my site is a coffee store, and my client really needs a shopping cart feature installed. I have tried virtue mart in the past, but I never was able to get it working.

    • The same does not apply to me. I am using ixxo cart and I have nothing to complain about. Its robust, fully featured and the support has been great.

I purchased my 3rd license as a reseller with a considerable discount and I am heading for the 4th. ixxo cart works for me although I have complicated projects.

    • I saw virtuemart is better, because you can tweak it to look like IXXO cart, and its very much easier to create an categories and product link. take a look at my demo store and setting up here. am using the vertrigo template tho. am working on creating an virtuemart template for rockettheme. but havn't finish it yet, cause am so busy with other projects. but take alook here

you can do alot with virtuemart even to make it look like macys, am working on an shopping cart website that my clinet wants it to look like target website. and am using virtuemart, am working on the template for the website. until then, ill start releasing virtuemart templates to RT members. here.
