I need an index.html in a Joomla site (before index.php)

I want to place an index.html that needs to be shown before entering the joomla site (with index.php, of course). This index has a link to the
www.domain.com/index.php
. So people click on it and then enters the Joomla site. The problem is that when they are in the site, if they click on the Home Menu, the page returns to index.html and not to index.php
I know that it is possible to create another kind of Home Menu... that can go directly to index.php, but If I unpublish the original Home Menu, the site doesn't work.
I did it once a long time ago.... but I just can't remember How I did it!!! It was quite simple.... but now I don't know.
If somebody could help me, I would really appreciate it.

After playing around with my menus... I did what you suggested... and then changed the name of the original Home Menu to something different.... (so I did not have to unpublish it)... and it worked.
