    • I don't really get that. Sam worked about a year and a half on those templates and you think you should get them for free?

    • Well yes I think so. We already pay one subscription. Why pay more? But I know you'll do as you think is best. Just my opinion ;)

    • You still recieve all the support and all those things for Joomla. Why spend more money on a single if you just need for joomla. If you need for Magento and Joomla, why spend for phpBB and Wordpress. That's why i think it's great to have different memberships instead of a big single membership.

Developer membership for joomla only = $300
If gonna use all memberships in just 1. That would be a price of like $1200 for developer membership. So i love you can choose where the money goes to.

    • That's like saying:

" I pay my ISP 20 EUR per month so i must get, Internet access, webspace, telephone, mobile phone, WLAN, 3G/4G access, tv, movies and radio for free. Just because the services are provided by the same company ".

      Perhaps because you get more?

      That's Socialism IMHO....

I think RT has made a good choice in diversifying. Even some of the original Joomla Developers have left the project due to infighting. I'm sure that Andy has seen this and the writing on the wall that there is a "possibility" that the Joomla project won't live much beyond the 1.7 release due to internal conflicts, therefore has branched out to other avenues.

While I don't believe this was his deciding factor, I do think it was one consideration (Again, my opinion).

Moving towards a stable blogging (WP) or e-commerce (Mag) platform just makes good business sense.

If you can't see that then sorry that you disagree.

Good Luck with the Magento Releases.

      And BTW...Ben...

I understand fully the implications of Magento and it's overhead. My question about Mage-Bridge was purely informational, especially on a shared host. Personally, I'd never run Magento on anything less than a VPS, it's way too much of a monster!

    • Just another follow up on the Mage-Bridge thing...

      IMHO... :P

This is something that you're going to need to address in your marketing plan since they (Mage -bridge) provide add on skins to match RT themes. So regardless of the performance hit of combining the two, I would think that you'll need to provide an alternative answer for the casual user.

Personally I think it's already there with the Mag Specific "extensions", but you're going to have to be able to quantify it better with your copy and a better explanation of what mods you've done to the standard CMS capabilities of Magento.

Just my opinion to help you guys compete anyway.

      Cheers,

      Rich

Just to clarify this point before the daggers come out...I'm a small business like most of you and to be honest 95% of my sites are Joomla so I have a vested interest in it staying and growing.

But I am just trying to take a "birds eye" point of view on this.

      Cheers,

      Hi Rich

Thanks for the feedback. Have you checked out our extensions page ? And watched the tutorial videos we have showcasing some of the extensions? I personally think it's quite apparent to anyone who's worked with Magento that we've included an awful lot of backend options to help speed up the development process.

I'm sure that for certain people that need some of the functionality that Joomla offers integrated into a Magento store, then something like MageBridge would be the way to go. But for those that just need an online store, and are happy with the simple CMS pages (and possibly the addition of the AW BLog extension, which we added support for in our templates) then a standalone Magento store is the best option. Hence the reason that we decided to develop Magento standalone, as opposed to bridging it with Joomla.

Speaking solely for myself as a developer, I've never done a site with Joomla, but I've done a fair few Magento stores now and haven't felt the need to add anything more - it is what it is, and it does what it does well. And it's all a hell of a lot easier with our extensions :cheesy:
