Ok, I think the tutorials that Thomas did have gone over very well. These cover a sample template customization and really give a good overview of the elements involved in customizing a template to make it your own.
What other tutorials would you like to see? Please post your requests here. I'm thinking the two short, easy ones that are often requested would be:
How to modify/export a logo from a source PNG file with fireworks
How to create a menu to take advantage of the "splitmenu","supersucker", etc.
How to identify and change an element in a template (ie, with web developer tools)
How to handle and solve permission problems
What else can you guys think of? Also if anyone is interested in writing any of these please let me know. I'll gladly give you credit and put your link on the page etc.
I'd like to know how to build custom navigation menus (horizontal and vertical) for Joomla sites. And also the User 1 thru 9 module positions and using them on a template. What can be put in those postions once set.
Oh, and how can I take an existing webpage (static) and convert it to being a Joomla Template, tricky when the site has CSS already in it.
Here's one I'd like to see: How to add additional module positions to an existing template.
This would be really useful especially for those using some of the earlier templates where not as many module positions were available.
I would like to wholeheartedly second this request!
I have asked this question at several places
but never got a good answer exactly WHERE
to add the necessary code.
I really would like the ForestFire template
to be as versitile as... well as Versatility.
The problem with this one is that for every template it's a different process. It really is very dependent on the structure of the template. I can pick one as an example, but it most likely won't translate well to other templates.
What I'm looking for is really to understand the concept of how it's done rather than a step-by-step for any given template.
Of course, it would need one of the templates to be used as an example, but if the concept is one that can be explained, it would help a lot with the learning process. Sort of teach someone how to fish for themselves rather than provide the fish on a platter, if you know what I mean.
The one example I'd asked about earlier was with regard to adding a banner module above the main content area and under the horizontal menu in GlobalBiz. I actually saw it done on a site while doing some idle surfing but just can't find the site any more.
Again I would like to second the remarks of Archie here above.!
Sure like the fish metaphore Just back from a lot of fish eating
in Monopoli (Bari) Italy!
