Menu Parameter Styles if sharing article between menus

  • Menu Parameter Styles if sharing article between menus

    • Hi, I have a site using Quantive and I am having so much fun with this template! I am stuck on one issue and am hoping somebody knows if this is possible. The website is for a school district and we're building sections for each school in the district which will have their own styles/colors etc. Each school has their own menu, however, within the menu, there will be certain articles that are shared across each school. I only want to have one copy of the article, if possible, but right now, if the article is in multiple locations, then the site is defaulting to the top parameters/colors/menus for that page. Maybe this diagram will help:

Home -> Select a school (blue style - separate menu)

High School (green style - separate menu)
Original articles - shows green style
Shared articles - shows green style

Middle School (purple style - separate menu)
Original articles - shows purple style
Shared articles - shows green style and high school menu)

      Thanks for any ideas!
      Janet

    • Hi,
I am still trying to get this to work... I have created separate pages for the shared articles, but I am still having trouble with assigning different menu parameters. These are all separate pages, but the menu is switching to the wrong article, and I can't figure out why. Here is what I've done.

Created Sections with categories and article pages for each of the schools
Created separate menus for each school and added the articles to the right menus.
In the menu module, I selected only the pages designated for each menu.
In the Quantive template manager, I clicked on the Menu attributes and changed the css style and menu for each section of the menu. The individual articles state that the parameters are inherited.
Cleared the menu cache, cleared my browser cache... it's still switching among the menus... I'm stumped!

The site is under development at joomla.bedford.k12.ma.us and I could really use some advice on this! Thanks, Janet

    • To start with... is your mod_rewrite on?
      Your URL's are all /index.php/partners/bhspa
the index.php shouldnt be on the url?
Whilst your playing with styling id keep all the SEF URLs OFF.
this way you can see where the style param's are showing.
How are you changing the style? are you declaring a param? or a special script ? or...?

    • Thanks so much for your reponse. I've turned on mod_write and turned off SEF to see what happens.

I'm not sure why index.php was in there... it's still showing without SEF too.

I'm changing the style through the template manager, by clicking on the Menu Item tab, then selecting the menu item, and clicking on a different css style, and a different menu. Is that how I should be doing it?

Changing the mod rewrite has made a difference in the school pages, the top level is still switching, but I'll look around and see if I can get that working.

Will we be able to use the SEF functionality with this theme?

      Thanks,
      Janet
