Move site in hosting account - NOW links are duplicated

Posted 13 years 6 months ago
    • Hello RT team!

I'm developing a site on Godaddy Servers and while developing it placed the site into a SUB-folder to the existing site. When I moved the site up one folder to the main directory thus taking it live, I began to see an issue with my URL link being duplicated in the menus.

      OLD DEV LINK: www.scienceofnature.info/scienceofnature.info/

      NEW LIVE LINK: www.scienceofnature.info

What happens if I go to " www.scienceofnature.info " and hover over the menu links ALL links are fine.......but when I click a menu link the menu links duplicate the url to " www.scienceofnature.info/scienceofnature.info .

NOTE: you only have to click the menu link 1 time, then all links show the duplicate URL.

Thanks in advance for the help
      Luni

    • Have you tried using Akeeba Backup?

    • Short and simple. Godaddy only has the 1.6.X install. Stupid mistake on their part. Your issue is with the php5.ini file in the root directory.

To be on the safe side, you can create a folder named "WhatEverYouWant".... Select the PHP5.INI file and move it to that folder.... Me, I just delete it upon any fresh install (when using rocketlauncher or a plain template). If you have doubts, just move the file like I said...and you can move it back if necessary...but you wont need to.

This will eliminate the duplicate url and in addition any admin backend issues you might be having.

      Hope this helped....

    • Side note... I delete this cause I am still running joomla 1.5.23.... If you are primarily running only 1.6.X and above....might just want to move the file (and NOT delete it)....to see if this works.

    • I had this problem last week after two weeks of work on my site offline. I strongly recommend you read this article, but only if you are using 1.6 version. Obviously, 1.6 is still a bit buggy.

Try disabling the "User Contact Creator" plugin. It may or may not work. If it doesn't, read this article from Joomla.org forums. It may help you.

      forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=616&t=621074

Other than that problem, and learning about a whole new set of features, I am loving 1.6.

    • Hello Prim, Epowermom & Brian, I tried the above issues and was unsuccessful on each. I went in and cleared the cache and it appear that by clearing the cache got me 1 more click before the duplicate URL appeared in the menu items.

Problem still persists and any ideas are definitely welcome

    • I HAVE IDENTIFIED THE ISSUE

It is with the SEO tool built into the joomla admin under configuration. I turned OFF the "Search Engine Friendly URLs" option and the duplicate issue is gone.

So, I'm not php literate enough to figure this out. Could someone point me into the right direction to solve the issue.

      Thanks, Luni

    • If cache is cleared everywhere (joomla, components, browser etc..) and you have no other SEF component the duplicated links should not happen.

Maybe something is wrong with your .htaccess

    • Thanks PRIM for the speedy responses.

      PROBLEM STILL EXISTS

I have looked into the htaccess file (s) .htaccess & htaccess.txt and they had conflicting settings. On line 57 one file had this: RewriteBase /scienceofnature.info/
and in the other line 57 had this: # RewriteBase /

I tried the combination of both and when I turn the SEF tool on I get 500" Internal Server Errors"

    • And what does it say on the live_site variable in configuration.php?
