No support here? No reply to my post from october 9 yet...not a single one
The problem seems to be specific to the Rockettheme templates (like so many) and so far I haven't found a sdolution.
so: How to get rid of the files that end with "?tmpl=component&type=raw"??? Search engines see this as duplicate content and it is not good when visitors get to see these pages either.
hmm I don't understand why this should be duplicated content.
?tmpl=component is used in EVERY JOOMLA TEMPLATE THAT EXISTS.
So what does it do ...
It links to a a component without rendering the full template in fact its taking the component.php-file with the template folder instead of the index.php.
The type=raw is just a parameter that gets passed with the link wich can be checked in component.php ... mostly used to display a basic version of the text for printing.
You can simply remove this link by choosing NOT to display the print link on your pages in the article settings. (Personally I never use the icons/print-links anyway)
If that would be true that this is duplicated content every print-link on the web is duplicated content.
I hope this explains it for you ...
And please "the problem seems to be specific to the Rockettheme templates (like so many)"
Not sure what this should mean.
Thank you for explaining what the ?tmpl=component&type=raw is about, but I would rather finally GET RID OF IT.
It is not caused by the print link, because this link was only visible in my eventlist entries and were causing an other extension (?pop=1&tmpl=component). Moreover I don't have many articles on my site. Mostly I have sobi2 entries. Still, thousands of pages containing ?tmpl=component&type=raw show up in google:
www.google.nl/#sclient=psy-ab&hl=nl&sour...mponent%26type%3Draw
"
Other major problems I had with your templates were:
- internal server errors caused by Rokcandy, which many other users experienced as well:
www.google.nl/#sclient=psy-ab&hl=nl&sour...nternal+server+error
"
So my complete website was blank until I finally found out that Rokcandy caused it! Took me about ten hours.
- cannot use my bought mmbackgrounds plugin because of incompatibility with the Panacea Template ("I am beginning to be convinced that the majority of your problems is template related", Michael Jacobs mmplugins.com developer). and so on..
But I would like to keep it constructive and stay focused on the problem I'm trying to solve, namely to get rid of all those search results containing ?tmpl=component&type=raw
?tmpl=component is used by every print-function or alomost every link that is oponed in a modal window in theJoomla core or extension ...
About both the template has no control. SO its's not template related.
If you dont believe me just try your site with the beez template for example ... or ask the developer of those extensions. The page you are providing as a reference is using a RT-template itself (RT_Paradox). The code that is shown is as far as I can see JomSocial and NOT a template.
The only place where RT is using that type of link is the print-link ...
Thats all we can do ... remove the print links. Other links are coming from 3rd-party-stuff ...
About the mmbackgrounds extension: I got that running on some templates but we can't guarantee it can run in every template. Especially templates that cover the whole viewport of the browser with a div have problems with that. As far as I remember mmbackgrounds adds an element right after the body. SO it's only logical that those two cant work together. Why should we make special templates that are made for working with this extension?
BTW perhaps the biggest misunderstanding is that ?tmpl=component is always used to display a copy of existing content. But that is not the case it's also used to display unique content.
Just examples: Articles that have no menu item linked or that are no called via a blog layout.
Many extensions are using it to display details of a topic or pictues that don't appear anywhere else on the site.
Perhaps the best idea would be to post that on joomla.org since I see the duplicated-content issue too. But somehow that is the concept of Joomla.
It would be best if one wouldn't need an extra plugin for backgrounds! In your (Panacea) template(s) there is zero option for this, so I had to pick one. It's boring to only have a fixed color as background.
So many options in the Gantry, but more options to set a background are really missing.
Concerning Rockettheme templates not working with mmbackgrounds:
Incompatibility is the biggest enemy of every standard. To keep Joomla as a CMS attractive to a large polulation, it needs consensus. If all developers start asking "should we this" and "why should we that", it's for sure that Joomla (and Wordpress and Drupal..) is on its way back, only open to a small elite in near future.
For me as an end-user without too much technical knowledge, it's hard to find out where the roots of a problem are. Once I find out, I hope to get it fixed asap. If problems are more common, it's easy to find a solution by forum-support.
Thanks for your support on the ?tmpl=component&type=raw issue.
If you are willing to take a look at my mmbackgrounds plugin, let me know and I can send you the admin access.
it's really a pity that there is such a lack or unwillingness of support, even if it's evident, that the problem is exclusive for RT templates. They should develop a way to give paid support via paypal or whatsoever. It is just not an option to leave the problem the problem, when you're trying to run a professional site.
Fortunately I'm gathering some in-depth knowledge of Googles Webmasters tools, where there is an option to specifically exclude certain URL parameters. Don't know if the option is new, because noone came up with this solution before?!
See the attachment. So you can exclude url's that contain certain codes, like tmpl=component&type=raw from the google index completely by telling google that the given parameter is limiting the content and should be excluded.
More in general: if you want to have certain url paramters excluded from being indexed by google: use webmasters tools!!
I guess it will take some time before the index will be clean, but I can already see google cleaning up my indexed pages. 32.000 before, now on 19.200 ('clean' pages should be around 4000 currently)
You have to understand that we give support for RT-templates.
- if you want support for Joomla in general ask on Joomla.org.
- if you want to ask for google-seo stuff look on google.
"It's really a pity that there is such a lack or unwillingness of support"
I think I gave you all information that is needed as it concerns RT-templates.
We are not Joomla ... we are not Google ... we are no seo-forum.
Now you finally found out that removing ?tmpl=component&type=raw is wrong.
Thats what I said.
"unwillingness of support" ... I feel rather insulted by that as you seem to judge all efforts here in the forum by that.
