  • Rename Templates Directory

    • Hello,

I've been searching around awhile - to no avail.

What steps must I take to rename the default templates directory to something of my choosing?

      Thank you....

    • Thank you. However, I am trying to rename the templates directory, not an individual template. The templates directory is the directory that holds all of the individual templates.

    • Henning! you always beat me to my own posts :)
So I'll chime in with this -> AKEEBA Admin Tools
This set of tools has all kinds of things to hide the fact your running a Joomla CMS.

    • The link to Joomla.org forums, although asking how to change the template directory name, actually explains how to change a single template name.

I have installed the free version of the AKEEBA Admin Tools (I enjoy their backup extension) and could find nothing about renaming directories. The paid version ( www.akeebabackup.com/index.php?option=co...em&id=860&Itemid=143 ) doesn't appear to have this capability either. The pdf documentation does not elude to directory renaming.

It seems that this request has not been done before? Am I way off base here? Sorry to be a pain.....

Let's take a look at Entropy for J17. The J17 versions have a lot less code in them than their J15 versions. Between Joomla and our template there are 398 matches in 90 files for a hard-coded string containing "templates/"
It is possible but it would be a HUGE undertaking.

    • WOW! I had no idea the template directory was hard coded so deeply.... I would hope there might be a solution.

My reasoning is that I am producing commercial websites for clients that pay handsomely for my services. When competitors show the easily viewable source code for these pages to my clients, the word 'templates' is used against me... it's almost as if the customer feels 'ripped-off' and it is a very tough sell for me to explain to my clients.

Might I suggest a way be established during installation of Rocket Theme Launcher packages for some of the directories to be renamed? Of course there can be a standard default as is now, but offer the ability to rename - or customize might be a better word - the installation directories.

This may allow for wider-reaching professional support to the awesome Rocket Theme offerings.

I am just starting a new project and was hoping to get this challenge resolved before I start customizations. Should I maintain hope of a solution, or just move forward and get ready to take the heat the bid losers are sure to bring?

      Thanks again...

    • Interesting.
I've found the opposite experience, as Joomla has slowly crept into mainstream consciousness it has become advantageous to me to tell my clients I'm using the Joomla CMS.
To me the key with Joomla is that there is a variety of methods that the website owner can update their content.
They seem to know that Joomla is a known variable and since it is a template based everything doesn't have to be created from scratch so that saves them money (they really like that!).
