Movin site from public_html to folder. What to look out for?

  • Movin site from public_html to folder. What to look out for?

Posted 13 years 2 months ago
    • I have two public sites/domains in my hosting account; one is installed in public_html folder the other on a subfolder as addon domain (also have a couple of test sites in subfolders.

Now I want to transfer my first site, a Joomla 1.5 site to a subfolder as backup and use my recently setup Joomla 2.5 site as my main one, but I want to have it inside a folder.

      My question is
      1) What's the best way to do it?
      2) What I should be on the look out for, during the transfer but also after it?

As I think of it, I will be doing the following things concerning 1)
      1. a) create an addon domain for may main domain/site installed in public_html
      1. b) copy/move the contents of my J2.5 site to that folder
      1. c) move the contents of the public_html folder (except the test sites' subfolders), which contains my main site, to a subfolder just in case

      Is this precedure OK?

This leads me to question no 2
      2. a) Do I need a separate htaccess file within public_html and do I need to apply any special settings?
      2. b) Anything I should be extra careful about concerning the files of the existing J1.5 installation?
Do I need to leave any files/folders within public_html?

Your help will be very appreciated
