    Sort by ALIAS?

Posted 13 years 1 month ago
    • Is there anyway to sort the articles by its ALIAS rather than its title? I have a bunch of articles in simplified Chinese and Joomla is incapable of sorting them correctly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

    • How are you creating the aliases?

Or are you letting Joomla create them automatically?

Your aliases need to be created in 'English', by you, and not by Joomla.

At least that is my experience in creating multilingual sites with double byte characters.

    • Joomla will sort, or allow you to manually (set/sort) the order of Articles within a Section or Category.

But this is done mainly by the published date, not the title or alias.

As far as Menus go, there is 'Default' (which is what was most recently published), ‘Alphabetical’, ‘Reverse Alphabetical’, and ‘Order’ (which is set in the Section or Category)

But again, this is done by the published date, or the title; there is AFAIK, no way to sort by alias in the Joomla core

So, even if you had the alias in English

      朝 (morning)
      午後 (afternoon)
      夕方 (evening)

and if you could sort by alias, Alphabetical, you would get

      午後 (afternoon)
      夕方 (evening)
      朝 (morning)

which might not be your choice...

Then again, even if you used a numerical value as an alias, if ordering by alias was possible,

      午後 (1)
      夕方 (2)
      朝 (3)

you'd be limited to numerical, or reverse numerical

If I were you, I’d search the Joomla forums for a hack (I did a quick search and saw a bunch of threads on the topic) or the JED for an extension that may allow you this level of control / customization.

    • thanks for the thorough explanation. As of right now, I am inputting numeric aliases, if ordering by alias was possible. it would be easier than manual input for a large amount of articles since I can do a sudeo multi level sorting such as 1d-1,1d-2,2d-2 etc etc

I was basically asking for a hack. I figured it would be an relative easy code change because I can accomplish similar feat in asp.net/sql with couple clicks. I would look around more.

You may get lucky on joomla.org...

If so, please post back and let us know.

(I'd really love to help, but this is beyond my expertise and what I can offer you in terms of support for our templates)
