What are Redirects Manager and Smart Search components?

I have a Reflex template with a Joomla 2.5.4 site. I noticed some of the Components in the components menu of the back end, which I never looked at some of them before today.
What are Redirects Manager and Smart Search components?
1) The Redirects Manager has many pages of entries and they are all disabled. I have attached a screenshot image. I have no idea what the entries are for:
1a) Where did all of those redirect entries come from?
1b) Are they from trashed and deleted pages in the database?
1c) Is it safe for me to just trash and delete all those entries since they are all disabled?
2) I have Search and Smart Search in the components menu. When I view the Smart Search it says "Smart Search content plug-in is not enabled"
2a) Can you tell me what the Smart Search does that the regular Search doesn't?
2b) I don't remember installing a Smart Search plugin/extension, so is this part of the Joomla 2.5 update?
2c) I have the RokAjax Search Module installed and enabled. If I enable Smart Search will it conflict with this RT search module?
Thanks for any advice! - NOTE to forum mods: Right-Click is disabled on my site but source code is visible. Unfortunately, I have some images on my site that are licensed and the agreement is that right-click be disabled. I use the F12 key for Firebug instead of right-click. Sorry for the inconvenience.

It's not completely clear to me how all of the redirects are generated. Some look to be deleted content. It's up to you to use them or delete them, just depends how you think it will effect the user experience on your site.
