'No data received'/'Connection was reset' errors

Hi,
I am running 'Joomla on local host XAMPP install on my computer. Lately I have been receiving
'No data received errors from Chrome and 'The connection was reset' from Firefox. I'm a bit of a newbie and don't understand what is happening or how to fix it! Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks- Kellie
When I look at the XAMPP error file I get pages and pages of the following two kinds of errors:
httpd(684) malloc: *** error for object 0x4c4d5448: pointer being freed was not allocated
*** set a breakpoint in malloc_error_break to debug
[Tue Aug 28 14:16:35 2012] [notice] child pid 684 exit signal Segmentation fault (11)

Hello Kelliew,
Are you able to load any pages at all? This is probably a Chrome/XAMPP issue.
Are you using Mac OS? There have been XAMPP issues reported in Lyon and Mountain lion.
Also a specific error in Chrome that produces this error:
