    Advice re upgrading joomla

Posted 12 years 4 months ago
    • Hi all - happy new year,

I've got a number (about 10 eeep) of 1.5 Joomla sites that I'm about to upgrade. My question is: should I go to 2.5 or 3.0?

I've been out of the way of Joomla for the last year or so (loving Wordpress) so I'm a bit unsure if I should just go latest (which isn't always the greatest) or be conservative and just go for 2.5.

The sites that are being upgraded are pretty vanilla. Apart from JCE editor (which I'm assuming won't work) they don't have any added components.

Also, with the introduction of Gantry (all the sites to be done are pre-Gantry) I'm thinking of using RocketLauncher and importing the sites in. Does that sound like a plan?

      thanks,
      Sue

    • I believe we are still advising that as stable as J30 seems it still a better bet to go with it J2.5.8.
No harm down the road as the upgrade path from J2.5.8 to J3.0.x is EASY.

However not so easy for J15 to J25 :(
I've successfully used this method to upgrade my J15 sites:
      1. Backup
      2. Install extensions.joomla.org/extensions/migrati...omla-migration/15609
      3. Cleanup details on your J25 site

    • Thanks, Dan. Yes, I got the impression that J2.5 was the go and that J3 might be still a little underdone. I think, especially if the 2.5 > 3 upgrade is straightforward, I'll go 2.5.

I'll have a few trial runs using MAMP locally before I bite the "live site" bullet.

      Thanks again.

      Sue
