AJAX Searching External Folders in Joomla Root

We are migrating our entire site from a custom CMS to Joomla! and we want to retain a lot of the older archives and content from our past site. Out site has been around for over a decade and we need to keep our customers and followers happy by providing them the ability to search and use the older data that has been contributed to the forums, the old websites, etc.
I have this in the root:
forums/archive/ (this is the forums)
legacy/archive/ (this is the old websites, 10 years of content)
