Template configuration on a closed network?

  • Template configuration on a closed network?

Posted 10 years 9 months ago
    • I successfully installed the Joomla Osmosis template on my closed network. This network is not connected to the internet. When I try to customize the template, there are web calls to Rockettheme to check for latest template updates. Is there a way to prevent or workaround this so that I can continue to customize the website?

      Thanks...

    • Hello,

Thanks for the reply. I followed your recommendation and disabled the following plugins:
      • System - RokUpdater
      • QuickIcon - Joomla! Update Notification
      • QuickIcon - Joomla! Extensions Update Notification
I am still having problems, though. Under Template Manager: Styles, after I click on the Osmosis-Default link to customize the template, I get the following error:
fsockopen(): unable to connect to update.joomla.org:80 (php_network_getaddresses:getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known
Since my Joomla installation is on an internal, closed network without Internet connectivity, how can I prevent software update checks and other external web service calls? It seems like I can't proceed with template customization without fixing this problem.

      Thanks for your help...

    • Hello Bearing,

I want to double check something, does it prevent you from accessing the template manager completely? Can you still edit and save? The warning is intended for to be deisnged that way, although I can agree the warning message will be anoying. I believe the error is returned from Joomla. With more information we might be able to recommend a way to suppress the error. Also because the site is not connected to a network it is hard for us to recommend a proper solution.

    • Hi Josh,

Yes, I am able to go into the Template Manager. No error is generated when I click on the beez3 template. The error only occurs after I click on the Osmosis template to edit it.

After clicking on the template, what code gets executed to go to update.joomla.org? Perhaps targeting this would allow us to suppress the error message?

      Thanks for your help...

    • Hello Bearing,

Sorry for the late reply. I wanted to clarify something. When you use the RocketTheme (Gantry) template configuration you are still able to use the backend regardless of the warning, correct? A screenshot of the error message will also greatly help so we can see what is returned.
