SOLVED Archive file is corrupted, truncated or archive parts are missing

  • SOLVED Archive file is corrupted, truncated or archive parts are missing

Posted 9 years 3 months ago
    • Ok, I have tried to update from Joomla 3.4.5 to 3.4.8, but I get that pop-up that says, "The Archive file is corrupted, truncated or archive parts are missing". Then when I click OK, the little circle just spins and nothing gets uploaded or installed. I have looked at similar threads regarding this and either the solutions don't apply (I don't think) or I don't clearly understand them.

I am getting the following message when I go to Extensions > Manage > Warnings: "The PHP temporary folder is not writeable by the Joomla! instance, which may cause issues when attempting to upload extensions to Joomla. If you are having issues uploading extensions, check the 'C:\Windows\temp' and set it to be writeable and see if this fixes the issue." However, since I'm not using Linux, I'm not sure the meaning of the permissions numbers that people talk about, like "0755" and "0644". If someone could put this in Windows Server 2012 terms, that would be most helpful! (I have access to our webserver that is hosting our website.)

Some troubleshooting steps I've done are:
      • When I go to System Information > Folder Permissions, everything is "Writable" except my configuration.php file
      • I've installed Akeeba Admin Tools, but I don't see a "Fix Permissions" option, so I assume that's because I'm using the Core (free) version?
      • When I go to Global Configuration > Server, my "Path to Temp folder" says tmp... (should it say /tmp instead?)
      • I just finished updating my Akeeba extension AND Gantry 5 extension, and everything worked great, no issues. It's just the general Joomla update that is giving me this issue
      • I was going to try and update Joomla by going to Extensions > Manage > Upload Package File > and install from a 3.4.8 that I download from Joomla.org, but I was worried that that would overwrite (rather than just update) everything I've done on my current Joomla 3.4.5 site.

Thank you for any help you all can give... I have backed everything up with Akeeba, but updating still makes me nervous!

    • Backup First of course... but you should be fine downloading the update package yourself and manually uploading... then do the steps you described to "Install From Directory"...

Does sounds like maybe your tmp path is screwed up... mine all start with a leading / from root to folder but I'm on linux... make sure the "tmp" directory exists-in/starts-from, your absolute root folder (not public_html) and yeah, try it with a leading slash

    • Thank you very much, Matt! I do have a follow-up question: when I install 3.4.8 from a Package File, should I install the "Full Package" at the blue button here: www.joomla.org/download.html OR should I install the "Joomla_3.4.x_to_3.4.8-Stable-Patch_Package.zip" Upgrade Package from GitHub here: github.com/joomla/joomla-cms/releases/tag/3.4.8 , since I am currently running 3.4.5? Again, I'm only asking because I don't want my current website overwritten!

Thank you again, and have a Happy New Year!

P.S. I did a backup via the Akeeba extension

    • Yeah, that's what I figured! Thanks again; I'm going to run the Upgrade Package when I return to work on Monday morning, and then I'll let you know how it goes (and of course I'll mark this as "Solved", too, once I run that Package)

    • The Patch Package upgrade worked, just as you said! I did have to Refresh my browser and clear cache, but then everything came up with no errors at the very top. Thanks for your help, Matt! I'm going to mark this ticket as "Solved".
