Non Found Error... template / Joomla / Server problem?

Posted 15 years 11 months ago
    • I have been having this error recently, quite irritating... error message appeared when I click on menu, or sub menu. The problem is on and off, sometimes no problem accessing the menu pages and sometimes tried many times still error.

      Error as below:

      Not Found

The requested URL /mydomain/folder/xxx.html was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
      Apache/2.2.9 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.9 OpenSSL/0.9.7a mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 Server at www.mydomain.com Port 80

Can someone advise, what caused the problem? I am using Joomla 1.5.8. Should you need more info, please let me know.

      Thank you!

      Hi Yves,

Thanks for helping. Can you explain further, if I remove SEF will it affect my search results on search engines? And what could SEF gotta do with the error I face?

      Thanks a lot!

    • I believe Yves suggested that for troubleshooting purpose, i.e. disable it and see if the issue persists than you can reactive it.

    • Ok I got you. But for the last few days I don't have the problem again....so do you think I have to off SEF for testing? Since I don't know when the problem will come back again. So if it is a SEF issue, will bots cause heavy loading to the server at certain hours...therefore cause the problem?

    • I've had this happen once where a host changed the server set up without my knowing and the following line in the .htaccess file needed to be commented out, then everything worked. You'll have to test it to see if it affects your site.
      #####################################################
      # READ THIS COMPLETELY IF YOU CHOOSE TO USE THIS FILE
      #
      # The line just below this section: 'Options +FollowSymLinks' may cause problems
      # with some server configurations. It is required for use of mod_rewrite, but may already
      # be set by your server administrator in a way that dissallows changing it in
      # your .htaccess file. If using it causes your server to error out, comment it out (add # to
      # beginning of line), reload your site in your browser and test your sef url's. If they work,
      # it has been set by your server administrator and you do not need it set here.
      #
      #####################################################

      ## Can be commented out if causes errors, see notes above.
      Options +FollowSymLinks

that last part may need to be:
      ## Can be commented out if causes errors, see notes above.
      # Options +FollowSymLinks
