Index.php permissions error
Posted 16 years 4 months ago
Being a newbie, I think I've screwed up my permissions whilst editing my Versatiltiy4 HTML file in Joomla!1.5.7 - please help!
All was working fine (relatively speaking) until I tried to add padding to my right column following advice from the brilliant Firebug:
After my edit, save failed stating that there was an error saving /public_html/templates/rt_versatility4_j15/index.php due to a permissions error...
After some forum reading, I then decided to change my index.php permissions to 0656, and hey presto, my edit had saved successfully.
Problem is, when I try to access my home page to check... I now receive this error message:
"A file permissions error has occurred. Please check the permissions on the script and the directory it is in and try again."
Here are my file and folder permissions:
public folder: 0711
template & rt_versatility4_j15 folders 0755
index.php 0644 (have tried 0656 too)
I have also tried copying a fresh index.php file across but this doesn't work either
Please help!!
Thanks
Steve

It seems that the problem is at a higher level, as none of my standard templates work either, and I haven't altered these? I receive the same error message...

Check if the permissions of the folders are set to 0755 and of the files to 0644.

Hi Yves, yes all are as you suggest. I have only changed my templates/versatility4/index.php, and now not even my standard templates work...

Issue resolved, thanks for your help...
It was the index.php in the public folder that was classified incorrectly, this is now at 0644 as you suggest and works fine.
Thanks v much for your help
