    • Hi, I'm really really new to all of this and setting up our forum for our site is fairly difficult for me. The problem is we are getting numerous bots posting porn, etc. on our site daily. Does anyone know of a way to prevent this? I'm running 3.0.2. Please email at: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Thanks!!!

    • Hi Brandon!

Which forum are you using at the moment?
As far as I know there are settings in most of them to disallow posting of certain keywords etc.
You have to get rid of these soon, it will only get worse.
Another problem is, that your site link will be posted into several porn forums and when you google your site name, these porn forum links will come up on the top.

      All the best, Kat

    • Thanks for the response Kat!

      I'm using PHPbb v 3.0.2.

I've gone through all the settings I could possibly think of to prevent the bots from posting junk, however, it seems as though it is getting worse!! Not really sure what to do??

Maybe upgrade to the newer version? Will that upgrade mess anything else up? We haven't really even began using the forum just yet however, I don't want to mess it up and then not be able to create another one.

Because I'm so new to Joomla, I'm sure I'm making it harder than it really is! LOL :)

Really appreciate any guidance; you can direct me to links as well that provide other guidance.

I'm also having issues with our blog as well: right now, all Administrators can upload a blog entry either with Joomla or Windows Live Writer, however, we're not getting other non-administrators the ability to comment on the entries...isn't that what a blog is about?

      Sorry I'm such a bugger!

      Thank YOU!!

      Brandon

    • This is your answer to the bot/spam entries on your forum. I've used it for about 2 years now on a couple different boards and haven't had a single bot get through since I added it.

      Anti-bot Question
When you're adding this mod to the phpBB3, be sure to look for the template changes. They are in another file in there and needed to show the question.

As for running a blog and allowing comments, that will require a plugin or addon of some sort. There isnt' a commenting system built into Joomla's core.

    • Thanks Ben!! I really appreciate it.

Do you have a suggestion for an addon/plugin for a blog commenting system in Joomla? Here's the web address FYI... www.vmwusa.org

    • I've used the forms components from this provider and I've been really happy with their support. They are one of the few others out there that have the same forum attitude as there is here...happy people.

These guys are also pretty good at code when it comes to javascript and ajax so there are fewer security concerns in my opinion. Sometimes components can break other functions or leave a site open to security problems. In fact, nearly every time someone says there site was hacked and Joomla was at fault, it has to do with a plugin or component that wasn't very well written. I think these guys are a little better at things than most.
