Have you actually used the JoomlaPack to move a Joomla 1.5 site? I was reading about it in the forum at their site and it seems to not be completely stable.

      All the time!

In fact I just changed hosting companies and moved two domains at the beginning of this month.

One small site, 125MB, on slightly larger 330MB, both went off without a hitch.

I also use it for regular back ups....

Once you've run a back up restoring a site is as easy as using the Rocket Launcher for a clean install.

    • Jem I am getting this message when I go to backup the file

JoomlaPack may not work as expected

JoomlaPack detected the following potential problems:

      * Default output directory in use
      * ZIP format selected

could this be do to the fact, I backed up my sql file already. should I delete that then try and back up?

    • The * Default output directory in use is a 'security warning' letting you know that if you leave the backup in the default directory, although unlikely, it could be accessed by someone.

So, you can change the default directory if you like, or leave the default path the way it is and once the site is backed up, move the file.

      * ZIP format selected is fine.

So, you should be able to run the back up without any problems.

    • When you're done, create a new database on the server you will load it to.

Extract the contents of the zipped folder to the new server,

      A) DL the zipped folder to your desktop, unzip it, FTP it to the new server

      Or

      B) DL the zipped folder to your desktop, FTP it to the new server and extract it there

Run the install as you normally would.

Note the old DB Host name, Username, Password, & DB info will be filled in automatically, change them to match the new server info.
    • Thanks,

    • Yes, it's in my personal 'Top 10 Joomla Extensions' list.

      Maybe even the 'Top 5'.

      Glad it's working.... :D
