Unable to add images to articles from ANY browser

  • Unable to add images to articles from ANY browser

    • Okay, this is probably the most frustrating thing that has ever happened with all the Joomla sites I have ever built. For some crazy reason, I am unable to add images to articles in my test site, no matter which browser or WYSIWYG editor I use.

Normally, I would use the MOSIMAGE tag by simply clicking on the "Image" button underneath the editor window, but no matter what I have problems - specifically:

      1. I have to click on the "Image" button twice before it will actually load the page to add images to an article.

      2. When I press the "Insert" button/link, nothing happens. ARRRGGHHHH!!!!!

This works fine in my live Joomla site at another ISP, but I cannot make it work on my test 1.5 site which is on another ISP. I am relatively new to 1.5, but have worked with 1.0 for quite some time now.

Here is a hint that may help someone smarter than I apparently am - in IE (I use 8) , there is an "error on page" message at the bottom left. I don't see this in Safari or Firefox.

Another possibility is that my site is a PREVIEWDNS site and I wonder if that is the problem. I canot make it live yet, so not sure what to do. HELP!!!!

    • Hi Nancy - thank you for your reply!

For front-end, I am trying to use Refraction. I was unable to use RocketLauncher, so I am struggling a bit with some of the killer modules but focusing right now on just getting content from the other site into the new one.

My problem however is happening in the administration template, which is the default Khepri.

    • i've had image path issues before. by chance can you see image thumbnails in media manager?

i know this is cliche, but make sure images is writable.

next, configuration > system and remove the slash in front images is it is there.

also, use the JCE editor. It's the bomb.

I can see the thumbnails just fine, but here's the catch - when I try to upload images, they go to the "images" folder rather than "images/stories". I have to use Filezilla to move them.

I looked in configuration>system and there was no slash in front of images.

This problem is not improved by editor switches - I've used JCE, FCK, TinyMCE, etc. The problem is with the Editor Button - Image plugin and how it reacts with mootools.js. I know this only because I enabled the error console in Firefox and when I go to my preview site, it lights up like a Christmas tree with errors, almost all from mootools.js. Here's an example when I press the Editor Button - Image button:

Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Could not convert JavaScript argument" nsresult: "0x80570009 (NS_ERROR_XPC_BAD_CONVERT_JS)" location: "JS frame :: alliancedrumcorps.org.previewdns.com/med...ystem/js/mootools.js :: anonymous :: line 41" data: no]

Now this has GOT to be a problem inherent in Joomla. I looked around the internet and there are a a TON of people having this same problem with no resolution given to date that I could find. I suspect that this COULD be a problem with my previewdns site, but I am stuck with that because I can't take this install live because it is replacing a live site on another ISP. I don't want people going to an unfinished site.

      Ideas?

    • are you using a preview url for you development site? if so there is your problem. what is the exact url of your site at this time? is it something like http://12.345.678.901/~username/ (Apache).

development preview urls are non-standard and can cause path issues. that attributes to a lot of the posts you are finding on the net. many people think those type url dev sites should function just like a normal url, but they are different in some ways, especially paths.

    • Yes, it is a previewdns site and I suspected that could be the problem. I think I confirmed that by going to my current ISP and installing Joomla there and everything works perfectly!

So my problem now is deciding whether to drop the new provider and just stay where I am (which I'd rather not because they do not offer the same options as my new one) or shut down my current website, build the new one really fast - assuming this was in fact the problem. Right now, I'm inclined to cancel my account at GoDaddy (which is only a month old now) and stay where I am. Argh...
