    • I have the same parms.ini file error, looking in Webmin, the permissions seem to be set to 2755, the owner is dameon, the group is root, and the parms.ini file can be edited.

However, the FTP in global configuration will not allow me to change FTP to enable. The error is "JFTP::connect: Could not connect to host "127.0.0.1" on port 21"

I have to assume that the issue has to do with the inability of FTP to be enabled.

Any one have ideas why FTP will not enable it?

    • Your host may not support FTP to Joomla. Mine won't and I get the same error.

    • yea, a bad server setup can cause all sorts of issues, which can be a waste of time to figure out.
many hosts claim they fully support joomla when in fact they don't.
if your host does not support basic features like that, then it's really worth looking elsewhere.
will save you a lot of frustration in the end and there are many good hosts out there that might properly setup and even cheaper than the one you're currently using.

    • Whatever you mention here, I did it.I enabled my ftp layer. Then about controller.php :It was already 755, I made it 777, then again 755. Nothing. I have Dreamhost if that helps. Any ideas?

      hi there,

haven't used dreamhost myself, maybe you could contact them if they could assist you with this issue?
are you sure that changes really aren't saving? many times that message shows, but changes save fine anyways.

    • I also struggle with problems of unwritable parms.ini.
First I change the rights on parms.ini via FTP so that there is full write access. Then I open the template manager (Zephyr template), and it shows that parms.ini is writable. I then modify the desired parameters and press the save button. Then show it to parms.ini is unwritable. By opening the template again, I can see that the modified parameters are not saved.

Am I doing something wrong, it is Joomla that teases me, or is it a configuration issue with my host center?

I have experienced the same problem on several websites with different templates, but at the same hosting center

    • For what it is worth:

I have had clients who are hosted (before I get a chance to get to them) with three service providers I know have this problem on their shared services:

      GoDaddy
      1and1
HostGator (Though this is more random than the other two)

I always recommend my clients to Rochen where I have never had a problem like this. But that is not to say it will never happen, just that I have not had issues in any site I've done on Rochen.

BTW, since we are discussing the FTP layer also here is a helpful topic:
