Unable to upgrade Gantry v3.1.15 to Gantry v3.1.17

  • Unable to upgrade Gantry v3.1.15 to Gantry v3.1.17

Posted 13 years 6 months ago
    • I recently installed the Joomla Cambra template bundle, which installed Gantry v3.1.15. From the admin panel, I was notified that there is a Gantry update. I downloaded the update, but cannot get it to install over the exiting Gantry library.

According to the upgrade notes at this link...
      http://www.gantry-framework.org/documentation/joomla/basics/upgrading

...I should be able to upgrade the Gantry library without having to uninstall the current library. Whenever I try to do so, I get the following error message, and the library is NOT updated:
It was not possible to copy the selected file.
JInstaller::install: Failed to copy file: /home/cecipo/domains/ceciportraits.com/tmp/install_4e8f761cd195e/./CHANGELOG.php to /home/cecipo/domains/ceciportraits.com/public_html/cms/components/com_gantry/CHANGELOG.php
      All permissions are appropriately.

      Any suggestions would be appreciated.

      Thanks, SL

:arrowu: This is the likely culprit. Your folders-> Admin -> Help -> System Info -> Directory Permissions may all be writable but it appears that you are not the owner of your files.
The actual owner is the user of the Apache server and not your Joomla install.
There are a couple of ways to around this:
      1. try changing the Admin -> Site -> Global Configuration -> Server -> FTP Settings -> Enable FTP to YES.
      2. Get your hoster to put you on an account that has cgi-fcgi

We've had numerous issues where what was thought to be permissions issues turned out to be ownership issues with servers not running SuPHP which is Joomla friendly to ownership of the files on the server. SuPHP is found on servers using fcgi/cgi.
Just Google and you'll find many issues related to this, e.g -> http://groups.google.com/group/joomlabugsquad/browse_thread/thread/485ea5532fef6c82

      Hey Dan,

Thanks, again, for the response. I have looked into this and I have asked my hoster to confirm my findings. There are no ownership issues at play here.

Any other thoughts as to why I cannot install this upgrade?

Is there a more manual approach that I can employ?

      Please advise. Thanks.
