I'm trying to do the same as you, but am having issues sorting out the steps for the latest versions of the Gantry framework. I was trying to use the steps in the tutorial "Creating Colorchooser Controlled Elements", but they appear to be outdated. It looks like some of the information has moved from templateDetails.xml to template-options.xml, and now uses a different format.
Any updates to this tutorial?

For the Gantry team -- can this become a feature request, and have color pickers created for all position groups (showcase, feature, sidebars, etc)?!

The Gantry Framework Tutorial located at the following link appears to be for the 1.5 version, not the 1.7 version:

1. Is there anyone who has already documented this same process for 1.7?
2. If not, does anyone have the diffs between 1.5 and 1.7 for this process?
