Templates not working / gantry admin not working

When I try to use one of the templates I've downloaded I get

and when I try to open Gantry in the admin panel I get500 - An error has occurred. String could not be parsed as XML
The server is running joomla 1.7 and php 5.3.5-1ubuntu7.3

thank you for the login details.
i see 3 rockettheme templates installed on your first site. when i try to open their settings in the admin i see the following:
> quasar > will display the distribution of module positions when clicked
> somaxiom > will display a roknavmenu error
> visage > will display a roknavmenu error
to fix quasar you'll need to change a setting in the template manager's options:
preview module positions = disabled
to fix somaxiom and visage you need to update roknavmenu, you have version 1.6 installed, latest version is 1.8. then you should be able to edit the template settings.
when that's done let me know if you're still seeing issues, then i will check again.

Hi - I am having same issue on a new J1.7 Visage template site w RokNavManu 1.8 and latest Gantry.

Fatal error: Call to a member function get() on a non-object in /home/motorcyc/public_html/libraries/gantry/core/gantrytemplate.class.php on line 358
It occurs when I hit a mapping page that has alot going on (2M in KML layers loading) - all other menu items load fine.
Any ideas - I can get the page to load after it throws this error - if I F5 refresh a couple of times - but I would like to get this resolved.
I can pm admin details - site is in dev but on a live server down for maintenance.
I can replicate error in FF Chrome Safari - and I have not tested IE yet just cause I really dont like Bill Gates...
