    Duplicate template not saving settings for layout

    Posted 13 years 2 months ago
    • Hi,

      i have noticed a problem with creating a duplicate template to override a master one. The master one works and i can change any settings (and these are saved in the database field and can be seen with phpmyadmin or other tools). When reloaded everything shows up fine, as before.

      If i create a duplicate of the master or save as copy, override to have mainbody of 1 (stretching across the whole page - without any sa sidebar) then when i save it (save and close or save, then close) the information is not stored in the database field for this template override. I can go back into the duplicate template and all settings are greyed out.

      I checked to see all caching is turning off, gzip is off, cache and rokzipper are off, and gantry caching is even off, i cleared all cache, deleting via ftp any cached files remaining, cleared local browser cache and still the same happens.

      Ive disabled other plugins to see if this helps, and checked my php version and other settings as per other posts recommend (from searching in the forums for similar topics)

      By default a new duplicate only puts the following into the params field of xxx_template_styles table:
      {"master":"8","current_id":"13"}

      changing settings and saving has no other effect, and the database field remains the same.

      any ideas what might be causing the problem? or if any other extension that might interfere with the saving of settings?

    • hi there,

      the layout sliders can NOT be used to publish or unpublish any modules.
      if you do not want any sidebar modules on a particular page, then you have to make sure that no modules are assigned to that page.

      the layout sliders only work for setting the WIDTH of the modules, NOT the AMOUNT of modules.

      hope this helps, kat :)

    • Hi Kat,

      I have a News menu, that links to a category blog of news category. If i publish two articles and no sidebars, and have 2 columns, 0 lead, 4 intro, then i get 2 articles in 2 columns across and what appears to be space as if i where going to assign a sidebar module. There are none assigned to this template or any module assigned to the news menu item.

      As such i had hoped i could override my master template mainbody which has mb/sa as default for modulus template. My thinking was, if i could assign this duplicate template to the news menu and set its mainbody to stretch the full page, my two columns of articles would stretch and take up the space that would normally be assigned to a sa sidebar module - if which there are none

      The image might help explain the extra spacing i see, and as such why i thought a template override might help
