Styling 'grouped' menu items on gantry?

Hi, I'm using gantry, and loving it.. there's just 1 thing holding me back - should there be styling for 'grouped' menu items? It looks a bit of a mess at the moment for me. I don't want anything fancy, just something that fits in with the rest of the menu.
What's the best way to get it styled? I'm in fear of messing with the core files too much. WOuld installing roknavmenu help, and come with some preset styles? Thanks for any help.
