    Why is #rt-logo height & width "hardcoded" in template.less?

    • Hi:

      Why is #rt-logo height & width "hardcoded" in template.less?

      i.e.
      #rt-logo {
          margin: 0;
          width: 112px;
          height: 46px;
          display: block;
      }

      If you have a client logo that is not exactly the same size as the default Gantry logo, every time a new version of the template is released you have to edit the template.less file with the client logo sizes. :cry:

      Wouldn't it be better if the #rt-logo height & width parameters were moved into the Joomla! template admin [Template Manager / Edit Style] under [Style] tab against [Logo] options?

      You already have under [Style] -> [Logo] -> [Type] option = "Gantry Template or Custom", so two extra fields of Height & Width (if "Type" = Custom) would seem logical?

    • Hi Peter
      As I've never ran a Gantry template, I do know that some our other Joomla templates have an auto-size feature.
      Regardless, I don't think the hard-coding is such a big deterrent since we recommend to our members not to alter the default LESS files but rather create custom override files.
      This makes it easier to track customizations you have made and alleviates the issue of template upgrades.

      P.S. Since your from down-under :) do you run RokWeather on any of your sites?

      Hmmm … OK, but creating customised override LESS files is not easy for a Joomla! "newbie" who probably knows nothing of CSS. :(

      Haven't used RokWeather on any of my - or my client sites - in years. Just didn't like the icons / layout. I've always used Gavick's mod_weather_gk4 . :oops:

      I agree but if its a non-developer creating a self-site then he won't need that much CSS'ng just replace content. However for developers, yes it is a concern. Learning curves SUCK as we get older.
      The best advice I can give here is, please see these links to better understand how to create your own custom CSS file for our newer LESS templates:
      LESS CSS
      Your first CSS-Less custom file or CSS custom file

      Agreed ! Just "replacing" content - in this case the template logo - is what should easily happen all the time.

      And the RocketTheme template backend provides an easy option to replace the template logo with the client logo … provided it is the same size or smaller.

      But if the client logo is larger, then it gets "cropped" by the template and the "newbie" client then doesn't know what to do next or where to look to fix the problem. :cry:

      IMHO: If the RocketTheme template backend provides an easy means of replacing the template logo, I think it should also provide "height" & width" fields for the new logo and automatically apply the changes to the template. i.e. It should provide the entire solution - and not require a "mix" of automation & .css.

      FYI: I tell my hosting clients to join RocketTheme, find a template they like & settle on a template style and then make their logo the same "height" & width" as the template logo, so they only have to enter their content !

      But in a lot of cases it's not this easy because the space allocated in the RocketTheme template of their choice for the logo is too small :cry: .

      Any particular reason you've asked about the RokWeather module being used "Down Under"?
