Layout names in Template don't match Module Position Names

Posted 12 years 2 months ago
    • Hi:

      In Gantry Template v4.1.6/7 ...

Layout names in Template Manager don't match Module Position names.

i.e.. Template Manager / Edit Styles -> Layouts shows:-

      Top Positions
      Header Positions
      Showcase Positions
      Feature Positions
      Utility Positions
      MainTop Positions
      MainBody Positions
      MainBottom Positions
      Extension Positions
      Bottom Positions
      Footer Positions
      Copyright Positions

but Extensions -> Module Manager for the Gantry template shows Position options of:-

      Analytics
      Drawer

      Top (A, B, C, D, E, F)
      Header (A, B, C, D, E, F)
      Showcase (A, B, C, D, E, F)
      Feature (A, B, C, D, E, F)
      Utility (A, B, C, D, E, F)
      MainTop (A, B, C, D, E, F)
      Full Width
      Breadcrumb

      SideBar (A, B, C)
      ContentTop (A, B, C) <---- Missing
      ContentBottom (A, B, C) <---- Missing
      MainBottom (A, B, C, D, E, F)
      Extension (A, B, C, D, E, F)
      Bottom (A, B, C, D, E, F)
      Footer (A, B, C, D, E, F)
      Copyright (A, B, C, D, E, F)
      Debug

And for correctness, in Templates Manager / Edit Style, the MainBody Positions should be named MainBody / SideBar Positions?

    • ContentTop (A, B, C)
      ContentBottom (A, B, C)

are NOT controlled via layout sliders ... Gantry adds the distribution for those automatically based on the width of mb.

      SO nothing is missing.

Breadcrumb/drawer/fullwidth/analytics and debug don't have the gantry standard Gantry chrome and so they dont have the a, b, c, d, e and f options. They just don't need sliders ...

      Hi Henning:

OK … I'm slightly disappointed that ContentTop & ContentBottom aren't controlled by sliders and are the "odd ones out" (of all the fields with multiple positions).

Having the ability to adjust their widths (within the width supplied to Main Content) would be nice.

    • The number of possible combinations would really go through the roof.
It's pretty easy to change the width in content-top/bottom via sme simple css rules.

Gantry needs to be fast. Makes no sense to waste resources for that.
That may change in the future ... but not now.

For the other positions that don't have a toggle its pretty easy to add one if you like to.
      It's all in the gantry-docs.

      Hi Henning:

      Thanks of the response.

I was asking on behalf of a couple of my Hosting clients.

They were wondering why template sliders are provided for other layout positions but not these two.

FYI: These clients are not the type to "play around or even care about" .css files. That's the primary reason they use RocketTheme templates - for the great & simple layout in the Admin template backend that negates (in most cases) any need to delve into .css. :D
