Articles overlap each other

I am using Hexeris template - Joomla 2.5.11 and Gantry 4.1.10
When I set a menu to category blog and use the 'images and links' function the articles overlap each other - it is as if they don't have their own self contained space, which other elements can't encroach into.
If it is a single article display and we have an image which is 300 px deep for instance and we only have a sentence or two of copy, the image wil break out of the area allowed for the text
