How can I override a gantry error.php?

  • How can I override a gantry error.php?

    • I need to be able to update my RT template so I don't want to change the template core file. Is there any way to override the temlpate error.php file?

      Thanks.

    • Hello,

Why not just make a backup of the error.php file onto your desktop, update the template, and then place the file back in the template directory?

    • Reggie, a really strange question.

Because the idea of override is not to do in such a way to be able to update Joomla and extensions without loosing your customization. Because I don't want to remember what file at what web-site I have to preserve before updating.

    • Hello,

If you only change our template files, updating Joomla! or any extensions will not affect the template files. Furthermore, you should always create a changelog for the files you have edited and comment the changes in each file that you have edited. This is, of course, only necessary for files that will be affected by an update. Custom CSS files or files that you have added in addition to the template will not be affected.

Updating TEMPLATES! Many RT templates are updated from time to time.

But RT templates do not allow to override neither error.php page, nor already overridden by the RT template joomla extension. If an RT template overrdies i.e. a blog view, then I cannot override it! What a shame... This can be solved by adding 2 lines of code, but my request was ignored at this forum some time ago.

We are talking about nothing. My question was:
      How can I override a gantry error.php?
      Your answer should be:
It's not possible and we are not going to implement such an override.

    • Hello,
Because the idea of override is not to do in such a way to be able to update Joomla and extensions without loosing your customization.

You only specified updating Joomla / extensions, so I was only trying to be helpful by saying:
If you only change our template files, updating Joomla! or any extensions will not affect the template files.

Nevertheless, can you explain to me how we could implement an override above our template overrides or show us an example of a template that provides this ability? This sounds like a great idea!
