    Custom CSS Per Gantry Preset?

Posted 12 years 8 months ago
    • Is it possible to have custom css that varies per Gantry preset? I would like for my viewers to be able to choose which preset they prefer from a drop-down navigation menu, and I would like to make individual changes to each of the default presets in the Enigma theme. What is the best way to go about doing this? I'm worried that if I modify the CSS files that accompany each preset that there is a possibility that they will break down the road through updates. Thank you very much for your time and help!

    • Hi, if you're using the default Gantry template, you can put your styles in the preset style sheets in the css folder - style1.css, style2.css ECT. There are four that come with it, and you can add as many as you like.

This method may not work the same in all of our club templates, but that is how Gantry reads style sheets by default - style1.css is loaded by preset 1, style2.css is loaded by preset 2 and so on. In a base Gantry template, these style sheets are pretty much empty other than basic menu styling. This is what they are intended to be used for.

    • Sorry, I didn't address the update issue. The Gantry framework is a plugin, and that is the only thing that is updated usually and won't affect the theme files at all. If there is an update to the theme, it's usually not the CSS files, and you only need to swap out the files that have been updated, and there are usually only few. If you perform you updates in this fashion, any files you have added won't be affected at all.

If by chance there is a file you've been working on that is updated, you just need to copy your custom changes into the new files. It's a good idea to have an organizational system of some kind to keep track of custom changes you've made to any base theme files.

    • I bought the hadron template and i love it. I barely use all features, i sure will one day. I was using gantry framework before and frankly for my needs its more than enough. But anyway, i decided to go for the hadron one, and i dont rergret att all. I want to use à different background for my website (vintabellas.com). I idd that using the rt_hadron-custom.css file. Now... Is there a way to do this per preset? Like rt_hadron-custom1.css, ... ?
