Creating HTML overrides

I have created a child theme of Gantry, which works well for CSS.
I would also like to override the HTML in archive.php. Creating a file as follows does not work:
/wp-content/themes/child-theme/html/archive.php
Is there a way to do this? - Freshpage Web Design

- I talked to the devs and the only thing you can override with child theme is css files.

I must say I am very surprised about this! It definitely rules out Gantry for any of my future Wordpress projects. Was there any mention of whether this will work in Gantry 5? - Freshpage Web Design
