New user cannot register because of theme error

I am using the default gantry theme on moretango.org. When I set up a new user on my wordpress site, and they follow the link to set their password they get the following error:
Fatal error: Call to a member function get() on null in /home/tangojam/public_html/wp-content/themes/rt_gantry_wp/header.php on line 14
I notice that I do not have the latest version of the default theme. My version is 4.1.4, but there doesn't appeaer to be any way to update the theme. See Screen shot. And I don't know if updating would help anyway.

- Try this download the theme gantry.org/downloads#g4-wordpress and unzip it an FTP override it and try then, after that if it does not work set the theme to WordPress Default one and try then and let me know what happens ...

Sorry it took so long for me to find the time to try this out. This did not solve the problem.
First I created a child theme and added the Template like to the style.css file. The problem persisted.
Then I went ahead and updated the theme to the newest versioin by ftp and this also did not help. I now have Gantry Theme 4.1.7 but the problem persists.
I also tried deactivating all unnecessary plugins in case of conflict and this did not help. With only Gantry Framework 4.1.7 I continue to have the problem.
Changing the theme to twentyfifteen did allow the user account to activate so it seems that this is definitly a Gantry Theme 4.1.7 problem.

Please post your URL, Username and Password in Secure Tab and i will take a look and maybe figure out what the problem is.
FTP info is with Username and password is also necessary ...

- There isn't a public register link at the moment. This happens when creating new users from the backend.
